The Nigerian Army announced the successful arrest of a notorious terrorist leader known as Abubakar Ibrahim, also referred to as Habu Dogo, during counter-insurgency operations in the Northwest.
The announcement was made in a statement on Saturday by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Edward Buba.
Habu Dogo, who is on the watch list of security agencies in both Nigeria and Niger Republic due to his involvement in cross-border terrorism, was apprehended in Rumji Village, Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State. His capture marks a significant blow to the operational capacity of terrorist groups in the region.
In a related development, troops in the Southeast arrested seven suspected commanders and operatives of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). Among those detained were Nnamdi Chukwudoze and Chigozie Ezetoha, also known as “Chapet,” arrested in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. Additional arrests included Ngozi Chukwuka and Oyekachi Ohia in Abia State, as well as other operatives in Umunneochi LGA of Abia and Orsu LGA of Imo State.
During the review period, the Nigerian Army reported the neutralization of 187 terrorists and the arrest of 262 individuals involved in various criminal activities. In addition, troops apprehended 39 individuals connected to oil theft and rescued 147 kidnapped victims.
In the South-South region, the army successfully disrupted oil theft operations valued at approximately N1.2 billion. Troops also recovered an extensive cache of weapons, totaling 205 assorted firearms and 5,241 rounds of ammunition. This included two G3 rifles, 89 AK-47 rifles, various pistols, and several shotguns, along with a significant quantity of live ammunition.
In efforts to combat illegal refining activities in the Niger Delta, troops discovered and dismantled 49 crude oil cooking ovens, 72 boats, and 98 illegal refining sites.
The army seized over 1 million liters of stolen crude oil and more than 873,000 liters of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
