The national grid has collapsed for the second time in three days, leading to blackouts in several parts of the country.
A check on the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org) showed that power generation dropped to zero megawatts at 11:30 a.m., affecting generation companies across the country.
This was announced on the official X handle of the National Grid, saying, ”Another Grid Setback Experienced.”
This incident follows four previous collapses that occurred within a single week at the end of last month, marking the tenth grid disturbance of 2024.
The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) confirming the collapse via its X handle said
“Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today 07 November 2024 at 11:29Hrs affecting supply within our network,” the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) serving parts of Lagos wrote on X.
“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders.
Kindly bear with us.”
This year alone, the national grid has collapsed ten times leading to widespread blackouts across the country.
Previous collapses happened on February 4, March 28, April 15, July 6, August 5, and three times in October (14th, 15th, and 19th) and November 5th.
