The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported the seizure of 709.979 kilograms of illicit substances in Kano during the month of October.
This information was disclosed in a statement by ASN Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the agency’s Kano Command spokesman, on Wednesday.
State Commander Abubakar Idris-Ahmad noted that the operation led to the arrest of 129 male suspects. He detailed the breakdown of the seized drugs, which included 309.991kg of cannabis sativa and 394.835kg of various psychotropic substances. Among these were 741,600 tablets of Tramadol, 2.789kg of pregabalin, and 0.027kg of methamphetamine.
Idris-Ahmad reported that the command secured 22 convictions during this period, stating, “These convictions serve as a deterrent to those involved in drug-related activities and underscore the agency’s commitment to enforcing the law.”
He emphasized that the arrested suspects have been profiled, with those facing serious charges forwarded to court, while others have been directed to the counseling unit for support and rehabilitation.
The commander commended Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Marwa (Rtd), Chairman and CEO of the NDLEA, for his steadfast support, which has played a crucial role in these achievements. He also acknowledged the Kano State Government and various stakeholders for their collaboration in the fight against drug abuse.
“We will continue to work tirelessly with all partners to combat drug trafficking and promote awareness of the dangers of drug abuse,” he stated. Idris-Ahmad urged the public to assist in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking by reporting any relevant information to the agency at its dedicated hotline: “0800 1020 3040.”
“Together, we can build a healthier and safer society,” he concluded.
