Edo Assembly Confirms Osagie As Attorney-General, Commissioner For Justice

The Edo House of Assembly, on Wednesday, confirmed the nomination of Dr Samson Osagie as the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, shortly after being sworn in as governor, announced Osagie’s nomination for the position.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, Okpebholo requested the Assembly’s confirmation of the nominee.

The governor also asked the Assembly, during plenary, to consider and pass the 2024 supplementary budget to ensure smooth governance.

Confirming the nominee, Agbebaku informed the House that based on Osagie’s service as a two-term Assembly member from 1999 to 2007, he would not be subjected to a rigorous screening.

The House subsequently confirmed Samson Osagie as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Edo by unanimous voice vote.

Osagie, a private legal practitioner called to the Nigerian Bar in 1995, is currently the Vice President of the African Bar Association (West African Region).
