Obaseki Takes Vacation for Rest and Medical Check-Up

The immediate past governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki, has embarked on a vacation to rest and undergo a medical check-up following the completion of his second tenure on November 11, 2024. His Media Adviser, Crusoe Osagie, announced the news in a statement on Wednesday.

Obaseki expressed gratitude to God Almighty, the people of Edo State, and Nigeria for the opportunity to serve, urging citizens both at home and in the diaspora to remain hopeful and pray for the peace, progress, and prosperity of the state and the nation.

Before handing over the administration to the new governor, Monday Okpebholo, Obaseki granted clemency to ten inmates who had less than a year remaining on their sentences in the state’s correctional facilities.

In a related development, Obaseki had previously mentioned concerns regarding a potential arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following his tenure. Speaking at the EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session in Abuja, he indicated that he had received information about plans for his arrest over alleged fraud. Despite this, he asserted that he was unafraid of any investigation, attributing the petitions against him to personal vendettas.

“I hear that the EFCC will pick me up next week after my tenure. Wherever they keep me, I’ll spend time doing research,” he stated, emphasizing his belief in the legacy projects undertaken during his administration. Obaseki noted that he has nothing to hide and is prepared to cooperate with authorities if necessary.

“I’m not afraid; I’m not worried. They can continue with their political witch-hunt and do all they can to harm me. That’s their problem,” he remarked, reinforcing his commitment to the people of Edo State and the reforms implemented during his time in office.
