The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to Governor Monday Okpebholo, urging him to refrain from taking credit for projects initiated and completed during the tenure of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.
In a statement, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Chris Nehikhare, criticized Okpebholo’s claims that his administration was launching the construction of the 7.5km Temboga Road and other projects in the state, calling the assertions misleading and disingenuous. Nehikhare pointed out that the Temboga Road, in particular, had already been completed by the Obaseki-led government.
Nehikhare accused the governor-select of attempting to rewrite the history of the previous administration’s achievements and urged him to focus on fulfilling his own campaign promises, rather than claiming credit for projects that were not his own. “It is unfortunate that Senator Okpebholo and his administration have started off on the wrong foot, resorting to misleading the people of Edo State by falsely claiming ownership of completed projects initiated by Governor Obaseki,” he said.
He further condemned the actions, calling them “utterly preposterous and condemnable,” and called on Okpebholo to abandon such tactics. Nehikhare stressed that the people of Edo State deserve honest leadership and a government focused on delivering real, tangible results.
Instead of engaging in “mendacious antics” to distort the record of the previous administration, Nehikhare urged Okpebholo to concentrate on developing his own projects that align with his stated vision for the state—if indeed he has one. “We challenge Senator Okpebholo to focus on fulfilling his campaign promises and initiating projects that reflect his administration’s vision for Edo State,” Nehikhare concluded.
