Former Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke Seeks to Amend Suit against EFCC

A former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke has applied to amend her lawsuit before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

She is challenging the order obtained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the final forfeiture of her seized assets.

During the resumed hearing, no counsel appeared on behalf of the EFCC. Justice Ekwo asked Alison-Madueke’s counsel if he had received any documents from the EFCC, to which he confirmed.

The lawyer then informed the court that a motion had been filed to amend their processes and that the EFCC had been duly served.

The court adjourned the case until February 17, 2025, for a hearing on the motion to amend the originating process.

In her suit, Alison-Madueke is seeking an order to extend the time for her to apply for permission to challenge the EFCC’s public notice regarding the sale of her property. She argues that she was not given a fair hearing in the proceedings that led to the orders for the sale of her assets.

The EFCC, on the other hand, contends that many of the claims in Alison-Madueke’s affidavit are false.

The commission asserts that the cases leading to the final forfeiture of the contested property were properly heard and determined by the court.
