Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered an immediate review of the state’s electronic governance platform following the discovery that the system is being operated from the backend by unidentified non-state actors, with no administrative control within the state’s Public Service.
This directive was issued in a “Government Special Announcement” dated November 25, 2024, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.
According to the statement, the review was prompted by concerns over a potential data security threat, as the state government has no control over the platform’s operation.
The announcement clarified that, contrary to reports circulating on social media, the government has not shut down the platform. It emphasized that all officials and staff of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) should continue using the e-governance platform as usual while the review is underway.
The statement further explained that the current lack of administrative oversight over the platform, which was initiated by the previous administration, poses a significant risk, leaving the state’s governance structure vulnerable to manipulation by external actors.
The Governor’s decision to review the platform aims to restore full administrative control to the Edo State government and ensure the integrity of its institutional processes.
During the review period, all MDAs will maintain their use of the platform until the outcome of the investigation is concluded.
