Space Technology Development Crucial to National Growth – Nnaji
The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, has emphasized the critical role of space technology in driving national growth.
He highlighted that space technology provides transformative solutions to global challenges, including climate change monitoring, natural resource management, and enhancing disaster response capabilities worldwide.
Nnaji made these remarks during the 25th Anniversary celebration of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) in Abuja on Monday. He described the anniversary as a celebration of vision, perseverance, and Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging space technology for national development.
The Minister further stated that the space sector is poised to generate over 60% of the new economic value from space-enabled technology in Nigeria. He also referenced projections from the World Economic Forum 2024, which predicts the global space economy will reach an impressive $1.8 trillion by 2035, driven largely by advancements in satellite technology.
Nnaji noted that the growth of space technology will extend beyond the aerospace sector, influencing industries such as supply chain logistics, agriculture, defense, and digital communications. He pointed out that space technology is no longer just an abstract field of exploration but has become an integral force that underpins modern life.
The complex network of satellite sensors and space-based infrastructure is not only shaping the world today but will continue to drive transformative change in the future.
