The House of Representatives on Thursday confirmed the appointment of Olufemi Oluyede as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
While the Nigerian Constitution does not explicitly require the confirmation of military appointments by the House, the lawmakers adopted a report from the ad-hoc committee on the screening of the Acting Chief of Army Staff.
Presenting the report, Babajimi Benson, the committee chairman, stated that Lt. Gen. Oluyede had met all necessary requirements. Oluyede was screened by the Joint Committee on Army and Defense the previous day.
Olufemi Oluyede had been nominated by President Bola Tinubu as the Acting COAS following the ill-health of the former COAS, Taoreed Lagbaja, who later passed away.
