Tinubu leaves France for S’Africa today

President Bola Tinubu will depart France on Monday, December 2, 2024, for Cape Town, South Africa, where he will co-chair the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) alongside South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The BNC session will take place on Tuesday, December 3, preceded by a ministerial meeting at the South African Parliament on December 2.

During the meeting, the two leaders will discuss a broad range of issues, including political, regional, and international matters, building on their earlier commitments made in June 2024 during a meeting in Johannesburg. The BNC will focus on eight key areas: political consultations, consular and migration, banking and finance, defence and security, manufacturing, social sector, mines and energy, and trade and investments. Multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and agreements will be signed during the event.

The 11th session is particularly significant as it marks the 25th anniversary of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission, which was established in 1999 to foster stronger ties between the two nations. President Tinubu is expected to be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including state governors, ministers, and senior government officials.

This will be President Tinubu’s second visit to South Africa in 2024, bringing his total number of foreign trips to 33 since he assumed office 18 months ago. He has visited 17 countries, spending a total of 135 days abroad and accumulating 285 flight hours.
