Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed plans to expand the state’s fibre-optic network by an additional 1,200 kilometers in 2025, building on the existing 2,500 kilometers. He made this announcement on Thursday at the sixth edition of the Art of Technology Lagos Conference, themed “AI and the Lagos Digital Economy.”
Represented by his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu also highlighted plans to establish world-class data centres in Lagos within the next 24 months.
According to the governor, these initiatives will provide the infrastructure needed for scalable, innovative solutions, further cementing Lagos’ position as Africa’s leading technology hub.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that Lagos is not only Nigeria’s economic powerhouse but also the continent’s tech capital, hosting over 60% of Nigeria’s tech startups.
He noted that the state’s ongoing digitization efforts have been successful, with 14 government agencies already digitizing citizen-facing services, enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accessibility.
