Allied Air Cargo Plane Skids Off Abuja Runway, Passengers Rescued

An Allied Air Cargo aircraft experienced a tyre burst and skidded off Runway 22 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Wednesday, temporarily shutting down the airport’s operations.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:05 a.m., involved an aircraft with registration number 5N-JRT carrying five passengers. According to a statement by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), all passengers were safely evacuated and taken to the FAAN clinic for medical checks.

FAAN spokesperson, Obiageli Orah, confirmed that there were no injuries reported. “The Airport Emergency Response Team and accident investigators are currently on-site. The affected runway is being cleared and is expected to reopen for operations as soon as possible,” the statement read.

The tyre burst caused the aircraft to skid, resulting in significant disruptions to airport activities. Several flights were delayed as authorities worked to manage the situation and restore operations.

FAAN expressed its gratitude to the aviation community and the general public for their patience and understanding during the temporary closure of the runway. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
