Tragedy struck in the early hours of Wednesday as a devastating fire ravaged the bustling Alaba Rago (Ram) Market in the Ojo area of Lagos State. The inferno, which reportedly began around midnight, caused extensive damage, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
Responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), and other emergency teams were quickly on the scene, working tirelessly to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Femi Oke-Osayintolu, along with the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that efforts were successful in preventing the fire from reaching other structures in the area, though significant damage had already occurred.
The fire’s destruction has left traders at the market devastated, with many unsure of how they will recover from the massive losses. The authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
