La Liga: Yamal suffers ligament injury, out for four weeks

First-team player Lamine Yamal sustained a right ankle injury during Sunday’s game against CD Leganés, according to FC Barcelona.

The 16-year-old winger had medical testing on Monday, which verified a grade 1 damage to a ligament in his right ankle, according to a statement issued by the club on Monday.

The club added that Yamal is expected to be out of action for approximately three to four weeks as he recovers.

The statement said, “The first team player Lamine Yamal received a blow to the right ankle during the game against CD Leganés on Sunday.

“Tests carried out on Monday have revealed that the player has a grade 1 injury to a ligament in the ankle. The player is expected to be out for 3 to 4 weeks.”

Yamal’s absence will be a significant blow for Barcelona, as the young talent has been a standout performer this season.

The injury comes at a crucial time, with several key fixtures on the horizon for the Catalan giants.
