The House of Representatives has recommended that the National Examinations Council (NECO), University of Ibadan, and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment be removed from the 2025 budget.
Additionally, 21 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) were flagged for their repeated failure to account for previous budget allocations and internally generated revenue (IGR).
The decision was made during an extraordinary sitting of the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee in Abuja. According to the committee’s chairman, Bamidele Salam, the recommendation to delist these agencies follows their persistent non-compliance with the committee’s summons, which were aimed at reviewing their financial operations.
Salam explained that the delisting recommendation came after several invitations over the past months, but these agencies failed to attend the hearings or provide the requested documentation.
Other MDAs affected by this decision include the Federal Medical Centre, Bida; Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment; Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria; Nigeria Police Force; Department of Information and Communication Technology; Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba; Federal College of Education, Yola; and Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe, among others.
As a result, the committee unanimously recommended that these 24 MDAs be excluded from the 2025 budget until they appear and provide the necessary clarifications.
