First Lady Condoles Makinde, Oyo Citizens Over Stampede Tragedy

wife of the President, Remi Tinubu, has expressed deep condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State following the tragic loss of young lives in a stampede that occurred on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Tinubu described the incident as devastating, extending her sympathies to the families, friends, and loved ones of the deceased.

The First Lady also offered prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured and currently receiving treatment in hospitals.

She concluded her message with heartfelt condolences to all those affected, urging the community to remain united and strong during this challenging period.

35 minors have been confirmed dead in a stampede at a funfair held at Islamic High School, Orita Bashorun, Ibadan.

The incident which happened on Wednesday, December 18 has drawn condemnation from many, including the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who has vowed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Makinde also said the state government would arrest those responsible for the incident and commiserated with parents whose children were involved in the stampede.

A day after, the State Police Command announced that seven suspects have been arrested for their roles in the disaster.

The Command’s spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, said ex-queen of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola and six others are in police custody.
