Sanwo-Olu Approves Establishment of Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the approval for the establishment of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LSERC), a key initiative aimed at transforming the state’s energy sector.

This decision comes shortly after the Governor signed the Lagos Electricity Bill 2024 into law earlier this month.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor (Media and Publicity), Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the creation of the LSERC is a crucial step toward advancing the state’s energy infrastructure. The commission will be responsible for regulating the electricity sector in Lagos and ensuring the development of a sustainable and innovative energy framework.

“The governor has approved the constitution of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, which will play a critical role in advancing the state’s energy sector,” the release stated.

The commission, which is awaiting confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly, is expected to bring about significant improvements in the reliability and sustainability of power supply across the state. The Governor also approved key appointments for the LSERC, signaling the state’s commitment to ensuring effective governance in the energy sector.

This move is part of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s broader effort to revitalize Lagos’ energy sector, address power supply challenges, and position the state as a leader in energy reforms in Nigeria.
