Yuletide: Police deploy 7,777 operatives in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has announced the deployment of 7,777 officers across the state to enhance the security of lives and property during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, and beyond. This was revealed in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola.

The State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, is leading a special crack team as part of the enhanced security measures. The police have recognized the potential for increased criminal activities during the festive season and have therefore bolstered security with additional checkpoints and patrols throughout the state.

The police command assured the public that officers, both in uniform and plainclothes, would be strategically deployed to deter crime and reassure citizens of their safety. Key locations, including places of worship, parks, recreation centers, government buildings, banks, and diplomatic residences, will receive significant police presence.

SP Odutola highlighted that high-risk areas, which have experienced threats in the past, such as Long Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Rounder in Abeokuta, Sapaade, and Ogunmakin, will be closely monitored by armoured patrols. In addition, specialized units such as SWAT, Anti-Cultism, and Anti-Kidnapping teams will conduct regular patrols around educational institutions to ensure safety.

The police command has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards criminal activities aimed at disrupting the year-end festivities, warning individuals with criminal intentions to either desist or face the full consequences of the law. The command also advised drivers to exercise caution and patience at roadblocks, which have been set up for the collective benefit of everyone.

Odutola concluded by stating that the Ogun State Police is working in close collaboration with other security agencies to implement a comprehensive security strategy, ensuring peace and safety in the state during this festive season.
