The Manchester City midfielder has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo’s claim that Vinicius Junior deserved the Ballon d’Or.
Rodri has finally responded to Portugal and Al Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo’s assertion that Vinicius Junior was “robbed” of the 2024 Ballon d’Or trophy.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, expressed his opinion at the Globe Soccer Awards last month, stating:
“Vinicius Jr should have won the Ballon d’Or, in my opinion it was clear. It was unfair. This is why I love Globe Soccer Awards, they are honest. ”
Rodri, who led Spain to success at EURO 2024 and was awarded the Ballon d’Or, has now hit back at Ronaldo’s comments.
In an interview with AS, the Man City midfielder said:
“Well, it was a surprise, really, because he knows better than anyone how this award works and, above all, how the winner is chosen.
This year, the journalists who voted decided I should win it. Probably, these same journalists were the ones who at some point voted for him to win it, and I imagine that then he would have agreed.”
Rodri’s importance has been highlighted more than ever this season as Pep Guardiola’s City have struggled badly in his absence.
The 28-year-old is expected to return next season despite his determination to return at some point before the current season ends.
