Violent Clash Between Villagers and Fulani Settlers Leaves Nine Dead in Jigawa State

At least nine people have been killed and four others injured following a violent clash between villagers and Fulani settlers in Jigawa State, Nigeria. The incident, which occurred in the Miga and Jahun Local Government Areas, began when a group of individuals, suspected to be Fulani, allegedly broke into a shop in Gululu village and stole hibiscus and other provisions.

In retaliation, villagers traced the footprints of the suspected thieves to a Fulani settlement camp in Yankunama village. Upon reaching the settlement, the villagers were met with an armed attack by Fulani settlers wielding bows and arrows, resulting in injuries to four individuals.

The situation quickly escalated when the villagers responded by setting Fulani homes ablaze across several locations within Miga and Jahun LGAs. Law enforcement, including police teams from Miga and Jahun Divisions, were swiftly dispatched to restore order. DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer for Jigawa State, confirmed that nine bodies were recovered from the scene and transported to hospitals in Jahun and Miga, where they were confirmed dead.

In an effort to prevent further violence, the Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, visited the affected area alongside senior officers, including the Area Commander of Dutse and the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations. Stakeholders, including local government chairmen, district heads, and representatives of the Miyetti Allah organization, convened an emergency meeting to address the unrest and find solutions to avoid additional attacks.

“We are focused on maintaining law and order and are working closely with community leaders to prevent reprisal attacks,” said CP Abdullahi, emphasizing the importance of peace in the region.

To further calm tensions, security patrols have been intensified in the affected areas, and police continue to investigate the incident, promising to bring those responsible to justice.

In a separate case, a 15-year-old girl, Zahra’u Dauda, has been arrested for allegedly conspiring with her ex-lover, Lawan Musa, to poison her husband’s food. Tragically, one of the husband’s friends died after consuming the poisoned food, while two others, including her husband Kamisu Haruna, survived after medical intervention. The police are currently investigating the incident.

Additionally, four houses in Dutse Metropolis were destroyed following an accident allegedly caused by two individuals driving under the influence of alcohol. The police have assured the victims that justice will be served and that the case is under investigation.

The Jigawa State Police Command has urged residents to remain calm and refrain from taking matters into their own hands. Authorities continue to stress the need for community cooperation in maintaining peace across the region.
