The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Chairman of the Institute’s Academic Advisory Board Prof. Nuhu Yaqub, who died on Saturday.
In a heartfelt statement, Prof. Sulaiman described Prof. Yaqub’s death as both shocking and devastating.
Prof. Sulaiman lauded the late academic’s distinguished career, highlighting his role as a former Vice-Chancellor of Sokoto State University and the University of Abuja. He described Prof. Yaqub as a renowned scholar whose contributions to education and research had a lasting impact on Nigeria’s intellectual landscape. Through his work, Prof. Yaqub influenced a generation of students and policymakers.
The DG noted that Nigeria had lost a highly accomplished political scientist at a time when his expertise and experience would have been invaluable. He also expressed personal grief at the loss, emphasizing that Kogi State, Prof. Yaqub’s home, had lost an illustrious academic figure.
Prof. Sulaiman extended his condolences to the late scholar’s wife, children, family, as well as to the government and people of Kogi State, and to the wider academic community. He prayed for the soul of the deceased to find eternal peace in Aljanat Firdaus and for his grieving family, colleagues, and all those affected by the loss to find the strength to cope with this irreparable loss.
