The newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo Oba Abimbola Owoade, is set to commence a 21-day series of traditional rites marking his ascension to the throne. The state governor, Seyi Makinde, officially presented the new monarch with the staff of office on Monday, following his appointment on Friday.
Oba Owoade succeeds the late Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed away three years ago, leaving the throne vacant. The presentation ceremony was attended by the kingmakers, known as the Oyomesi, as well as top government officials and other notable figures from the state.
After receiving the staff of office, Oba Owoade traveled to Oyo town, where he is set to be warmly received by his subjects. The new monarch will begin the mandatory 21-day traditional rites for his ascension to the throne of his ancestors.
“Oba Owoade has headed to Oyo town to meet with the sons and daughters of the community and will immediately proceed with the traditional rites required for his ascension,” the source revealed.
This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the ancient Yoruba town as Oba Owoade prepares to take on the responsibilities of the revered throne.
