Governor Sanwo-Olu Pledges Collaboration with New Lagos Assembly Speaker

On Monday, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, welcomed the newly appointed Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, and expressed his commitment to working closely with her to implement policies that will benefit the people of Lagos.

The governor, alongside his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, received Meranda and other principal officers of the House shortly before the weekly State Executive Council meeting.

Meranda assumed the role of Speaker last Monday after her predecessor, Mudashiru Obasa, was removed by the House over allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement. She presided over her first sitting on Friday, during which she established a new leadership team and appointed a seven-member Selection Committee.

During the courtesy visit at his office in Alausa, Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu guided the speaker and her delegation to the Council Chamber. In a statement, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of fostering a strong working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.

“The Speaker, her principal officers, and members of the Executive Council reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a harmonious working relationship,” Sanwo-Olu wrote on X.com. “This alignment ensures that Lagos continues to be a model of excellence in governance. We will build on the successes of the past and work tirelessly to drive transformational progress across all sectors. Together, we will continue to implement policies and projects that support our Greater Lagos vision.”
