Lagos Re-Arraigns Evans over Police Officers’ Death

Billionaire kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, has been re-arraigned before an Ikeja High Court for the murder of two police officers and the attempted kidnapping of Young Shall Grow Transport Company boss, Chief Obianodo Vincent.

Evans was re-arraigned alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, on a five-count charge, including murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit felony (kidnapping), and attempted kidnapping, before Justice Adenike Coker. Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Evans and Emeka, who are currently in custody at the Kirikiri Maximum Custodial Centre following convictions in other cases, appeared in court for the proceedings. During the session, prosecuting counsel Yusuf Sule informed the court that the case was starting afresh. He requested that the charges be read to the defendants once more, allowing their plea to be entered. The defendants’ counsels did not object to this request.

Sule also informed the court that both Evans and Emeka had applied for a plea bargain through their new counsels, Chief Okechukwu Omefo and C. N. Udeh. Omefo then requested a date for the court to hear their plea bargain application, which would be considered by the state government.
