Wike Urges Patience with Government Amid Economic Hardships

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on Nigerians to be patient with the government despite the ongoing economic challenges. Speaking in Ibadan during a condolence visit to Governor Seyi Makinde, Wike assured citizens that President Bola Tinubu’s policies are aimed at improving the country’s economic situation over time.

Wike, who was accompanied by former governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Samuel Ortom, as well as several senators, acknowledged the difficulties faced by Nigerians but emphasized that the current economic policies would bring positive change in the future. He urged citizens to recognize the progress made so far and remain patient, stating that while the effects of the government’s policies may not be immediate, the long-term benefits will be felt.

Wike also offered his condolences to Governor Makinde, whose elder brother, Sunday Makinde, passed away on January 24, 2025, at the age of 65. He emphasized the importance of unity during times of loss and assured Makinde that he was not alone.

In a separate gesture of support, PDP chieftain Bode George, alongside former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, also visited Makinde to offer condolences. Makinde, in his remarks, thanked both delegations for their solidarity and urged public figures to prioritize their health, especially in light of the sudden loss of his brother.
