The decomposing body of Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, has been discovered on the 2nd Niger Bridge. The lawmaker, who represented Onitsha North Constituency 1, had been kidnapped on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunabankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha.
After weeks of investigation, security teams from Abuja arrested the suspects on Wednesday, who then led authorities to the location where Azuka’s remains had been discarded.
While details of the incident remain unclear, Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed that police operatives had been sent to the scene. He assured the public that more information would be released in due course.
This tragic event marks the second kidnapping and murder of a sitting Anambra lawmaker in recent years. In 2022, Okey Okoye, known as “Okey Di Ok” from Aguata, was abducted and beheaded, with his body later found near the Nnobi area.
The South-East region has been plagued by increasing violence, with gunmen attacking public facilities and killing many, despite repeated assurances from security forces and government officials. Calls for secession have also intensified, though no group has taken responsibility for the ongoing violence in the region.
