FCTA Approves N36.5bn for Key Infrastructure Projects Across Abuja and Satellite Towns

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved a substantial budget of N36.5 billion to fund various development projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure in the Federal Capital City (FCC) and its satellite towns.

The Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, following the first FCT Executive Committee meeting of 2025.

According to Zulkiflu, the allocation includes N19.6 billion for the construction of multi-event sports centers, with a further N13.9 billion earmarked for the building of two magistrate courts. Additionally, N3 billion will go towards the installation of a 33KV power supply and a new streetlight system for several areas.

Details of the multi-event sports center projects reveal that two lots were awarded for construction. Lot A, located in Area 3 and Area 10 of the Garki District, was awarded to Earthgain Energy and Environmental Services Ltd for N9.9 billion. Lot B, situated in the Kafe District behind Life Camp, will be developed by Tegwa-Tegwa Nigeria Ltd at a cost of N9.7 billion. Both projects are expected to be completed within 12 months.

In addition to the sports facilities, the committee approved the construction of two magistrate courts—one in Asokoro and another in Garki District. The Asokoro court will cost N7.6 billion, while the Garki court is budgeted at N6.3 billion. These courts, designed to enhance access to justice and legal services in the FCT, are set to be completed in 15 and 18 months, respectively.

A key highlight of the approval is the N3 billion allocation for the installation of a 33KV power supply system, which will extend to communities from Dawaki to Bwari. This funding will also cover the provision of solar-powered street lighting along Arab Road and U-Shape Road in the same regions. The contract for this project was awarded to CGC Nigeria Ltd, with an expected completion timeline of six months. Zulkiflu emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader effort to improve security and provide better services in the satellite towns.

These projects, once completed, are expected to significantly improve the infrastructure and quality of life in Abuja and its surrounding areas, supporting both residential and business growth.
