NSCDC Arrests Five Individuals Over Illegal Firearms, Kidnapping, and Banditry Activities

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad has arrested five individuals allegedly involved in illegal firearms possession, gun running, kidnapping, banditry, and job racketeering.

A statement released by NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, confirmed the arrest and revealed the items recovered during the operation. These include two automatic rifles with three magazines, an AK-47 rifle with 15 live rounds of ammunition, an FN rifle with two live rounds, one live cartridge, and nine locally fabricated pistols. Additionally, a bayonet and two pairs of uniforms from the Nigerian Forest Security Services were seized from the suspects.

The arrested individuals, Umar Ibrahim, Nura Abubakar, and Mohammed Sule, are currently in detention at Ukoso Komva Ward in Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. According to the NSCDC, the suspects were apprehended while on their way to deliver firearms to a buyer.

Upon questioning, the suspects revealed that three of them had been lured into the crime by an individual named Ali, who is still at large. They claimed Ali had invited them to assist with the sale of firearms in his possession, and they were intercepted while attempting to complete the transaction.

The NSCDC is continuing its investigation, with efforts underway to track down the fugitive, Ali, and further dismantle the illegal firearms trade in the region.
