Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday dismissed claims that he failed to support President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, asserting that he has moved beyond such allegations.
El-Rufai, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), was responding to recent comments made by Yusuf Tukur, a social media user with the handle #realYusufTukur. Tukur claimed that despite Tinubu and his allies actively seeking El-Rufai’s support during the election, they later accused him of not backing the president.
Tukur’s tweet read: “When they were desperately seeking El-Rufai’s support, #officialABAT and his goons were everywhere singing Malam’s praises. Given their penchant for ingratitude, however, they’ve turned around to claim that Malam didn’t even support PBAT. But these testimonies say otherwise.”
In response, El-Rufai, through his X (formerly Twitter) handle, made it clear that his political actions had been driven by a sense of duty, not personal gain. “We did what we did for God, country, and party, expecting nothing in return. What is unfolding is merely another life experience and part of human nature. We have moved on, but their conscience won’t let them sleep well. Thanks anyway,” he wrote.
El-Rufai, who has been a key political figure in the APC, further emphasized his unpretentious approach to governance, stating that he does not engage in political posturing. “Truly, I don’t know how to pretend. Being a Nollywood actor in governance is for some others, not for some of us,” he added, implying that he remains true to his beliefs without resorting to political theatrics.
The former governor’s comments come amidst ongoing discussions about his role in the Tinubu administration and the political dynamics within the APC.
