Lagos govt seals illegal public toilets in Ikate over environmental violations

The Lagos State Waste Water Management Office (LSWMO) has taken enforcement action by sealing illegal public toilets in Ikate, Eti-Osa LGA, as part of its efforts to tackle environmental pollution and improve public hygiene.

The announcement was made by Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, through a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

According to Wahab’s post, the LSWMO sealed off the unauthorized public toilets and bathrooms along Coastal Road, Ikate, on February 11, 2025, for causing environmental pollution.

The commissioner reiterated the state government’s strict stance on environmental pollution, emphasizing the health risks posed by unregulated public sanitation facilities. He also shared comments from the General Manager of LSWMO, Adefemi Afolabi, who encouraged residents to maintain proper hygiene to protect public health and support environmental sustainability.

This action is part of Lagos State’s ongoing sanitation efforts, aimed at regulating wastewater disposal and improving hygiene across the state.

The government is committed to ensuring accessible, safe, and clean sanitation facilities in every local government area, reinforcing its dedication to a cleaner and healthier environment.
