The House of Representatives has called for immediate and efficient justice for victims of gender-based violence, emphasizing that fast-tracked legal proceedings will help deter this growing social issue.
In a motion brought forward by Awaji inombek Abiante and three other members, the House highlighted the prolonged delays in justice delivery as a key factor contributing to the persistence of gender-based violence. The lawmakers pointed out the numerous women who have been murdered over the years, yet justice remains elusive for many of these victims.
To address the situation, the House proposed the establishment of special divisions within existing courts that would handle cases related to homicide, femicide, and similar crimes. The aim is to expedite trials, reduce case backlogs, and restore public trust in the legal system.
The motion also urged the National Judicial Council to take action in designating these special divisions across all levels of the judiciary. Additionally, lawmakers called on law enforcement agencies to prioritize homicide investigations and ensure the thorough prosecution of offenders.
Through these resolutions, the House aims to strengthen the legal framework and bring justice to those affected by gender-based violence.
