Former NYSC Director-General Maharazu Tsiga Freed After 22 Days in Kidnappers’ Captivity

The former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Maharazu Tsiga, regained his freedom on Friday after spending 22 days in captivity.

A source confirmed to journalists late on Friday that Tsiga had been released, although the details surrounding his release remain unclear. The source also mentioned that Tsiga is currently receiving medical care at an undisclosed hospital for security reasons.

Tsiga was abducted on February 6, 2025, from his residence in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State. The gunmen, led by notorious bandit kingpin Babaro, initially demanded a ransom of N250 million for his release. It remains unknown whether any payment was made to secure his freedom.

The Katsina State Police Command, along with government officials and security agencies, have not provided any official statements regarding Tsiga’s release as of the latest update.

During the abduction, two individuals sustained injuries, and in an unfortunate turn of events, one of the gunmen was accidentally shot dead by a member of his own gang.
