In a swift and commendable operation, the Kwara State Police Command has successfully rescued Sule Saidu, who was abducted by armed assailants from the Ahuro Fulani Camp in Ifelodun Local Government Area. The operation also resulted in the arrest of two key suspects and the recovery of firearms.
According to Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer, the daring rescue mission was launched after the police received intelligence about the kidnapping. At around 11 p.m. on Friday, Saidu was seized by a group of five armed kidnappers. However, the following morning, a joint security team—comprising police detectives, local hunters, and vigilantes—rushed to the scene, determined to track down the criminals.
The team intercepted the gang along the Babanla/Oreke area, where a fierce gun battle ensued. In the exchange of fire, one kidnapper was killed, and two others—40-year-old Ibrahim Shehu and 25-year-old Mohammad Lawal—were arrested. Despite being wounded, the remaining two kidnappers managed to flee the scene.
Authorities also seized a high-powered AK-47 rifle and various criminal charms from the suspects, adding crucial evidence to the case. Unfortunately, the two arrested individuals later succumbed to their injuries while being transported to the hospital.
The Police Command praised the collaborative efforts of the local hunters and vigilantes, whose contributions played a significant role in the success of the operation. Their involvement in enhancing community safety is increasingly being recognized as a valuable asset in combating crime.
The Commissioner of Police urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement, reinforcing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining peace and security.
This successful operation highlights the unwavering commitment of the Kwara State Police Command to combatting crime and ensuring the safety of citizens, as well as the vital role played by local security forces in tackling the growing menace of kidnapping.
