Ondo Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Attack on NANS Members

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the February 23 attack on members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Area. The students were traveling to Abuja for their annual convention when they were ambushed by a group of youths.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday. She explained that the police had responded swiftly after receiving a distress call from one of the NANS members, reporting the unprovoked attack. Authorities immediately moved to the scene, restored calm, and ensured the victims’ safety.

Odunlami revealed that intelligence led the police to discover that this was not the first attack on NANS members in the same community. Following a manhunt, three suspects were arrested, and investigations are ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, reassured NANS members that a thorough investigation would be conducted to identify all those involved in the attack and bring them to justice. He also emphasized the commitment of the police to ensuring the safety of both residents and travelers in the state.

The three arrested suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and will be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation. Odunlami urged the public to report any suspicious activities to security agencies and remain law-abiding.

NANS, led by Owolewa Taiwo, Zonal Coordinator for the South-West, expressed gratitude for the police’s swift response and pledged continued support for efforts to combat crime in Ondo State.
