The 2023 governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has firmly stated that he does not need to consult with President Bola Tinubu in his quest to become the next governor of Lagos.
In a televised interview on Tuesday, Jandor clarified that his ambitions for the 2027 governorship election remain unwavering, and he believes his path to leadership is not contingent on discussions with Tinubu or anyone else.
Jandor’s political journey began with the All Progressives Congress (APC) before he left the party to lead the Lagos4Lagos Movement in 2022. This bloc within the APC eventually merged with the PDP, where he became the party’s gubernatorial candidate for Lagos in the 2023 elections. However, he was defeated by the incumbent, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who secured re-election under the APC banner.
Despite his loss, Jandor’s political aspirations remain intact. He has since parted ways with the PDP, citing frustrations over internal sabotage from party leaders. In a recent statement, Jandor expressed his dissatisfaction with the way the PDP handled issues of anti-party activities within its ranks. He noted that instead of the national leadership of the party enforcing disciplinary measures, those responsible for undermining his candidacy were rewarded with appointments.
Looking ahead to the 2027 election, Jandor emphasized that he is exploring new options and will join a different party if necessary to pursue his governorship dream. “We have chosen this path; we are not deviating,” Jandor declared, adding that only God can determine who will lead Lagos in the coming years.
Jandor also revealed that since he left the APC in 2022, he has had no meetings with President Tinubu, and he reiterated that such meetings are not a requirement for his political future. His words suggest that his ambition for Lagos is driven by his personal resolve and not by the approval or guidance of political heavyweights.
