The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio to remain focused and committed to delivering effective legislative interventions for Nigerians.
In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja, Lary Onah, Executive Director of the Stay Alert Human Rights Awareness Initiative, urged Akpabio to stay resolute in his role. Onah also expressed strong confidence in Akpabio’s leadership, describing his tenure as president of the 10th Senate as impactful and notably gender inclusive.
He emphasized that despite baseless allegations of sexual harassment—denied by Akpabio—both Nigerians and lawmakers continue to trust his ability to navigate the complexities of governance. Onah labeled the allegations as a calculated distraction aimed at destabilizing democracy and undermining the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“She should apologize for her misconduct and retract her sexual harassment complaint against the most competent Senate President Nigeria has had,” Onah stated. “The accusation seems designed to distract the Senate from holding her accountable and to pressure leadership into doing her bidding.”
Onah urged Akpabio to disregard the “cheap blackmail” and focus on his responsibilities, working for the benefit and prosperity of Nigeria. The CSOs are also organizing a solidarity march to show their support for the Senate President and the leadership of the country.
