EFCC Interrogates Former Minister Uju Kennedy Ohanenye Over Alleged ₦138.4m Misappropriation

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday interrogated Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, the immediate-past Minister for Women Affairs, regarding her alleged involvement in the misappropriation of ₦138.4 million. The funds in question were meant for the disbursement of the 2023 budgeted allocation for the Ministry.

According to reliable sources, Ohanenye arrived at the EFCC headquarters around 11 a.m. on Thursday, where she was questioned about her role in the alleged financial mismanagement. Investigations by the EFCC reportedly revealed that funds intended for the P-Bat Cares for Women Initiative were diverted for Ohanenye’s personal gain.

The sources further revealed that she has not been granted administrative bail, as the investigation into the matter is still ongoing.

Uju Kennedy Ohanenye was among the ministers relieved of their duties by President Bola Tinubu in October 2024. She had been appointed as Minister for Women Affairs on August 21, 2023.
