The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to comply with the Court of Appeal’s ruling, which reinstates the APC’s local government chairmen and councillors who were previously removed. This appeal was made by the APC’s Director of Media and Publicity in Osun Kola Olabisi, during a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday.
Olabisi emphasized that governance should focus on delivering democratic dividends, upholding truth, and following due process, rather than pursuing political vendettas. He expressed concerns over the ongoing tension between Governor Adeleke and his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, accusing the two of turning Osun’s political landscape into a spectacle that harms the state’s reputation for political maturity and wisdom.
“We are deeply concerned about the political mockery in Osun, a state historically known for its intelligent and politically astute people,” Olabisi stated, noting that the state had been subjected to negative media coverage for the past three weeks due to Adeleke’s refusal to implement the ruling that reinstated the APC’s sacked local government officials.
He also expressed disappointment that Governor Adeleke had disregarded recommendations from the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to comply with the court’s judgment. “The ongoing political crisis shows that Governor Adeleke has lost public trust and is struggling to maintain control,” he said.
The APC spokesperson urged Adeleke to respect the Court of Appeal’s decision and implement the ruling in the interest of the rule of law. Olabisi also defended the administration of Oyetola, stating that all actions taken during his tenure were in full compliance with legal and procedural standards. He dismissed accusations of procurement violations, labeling them as misleading.
“Contrary to claims that procurement rules were violated, all contracts awarded during Oyetola’s administration strictly adhered to the State Public Procurement Law,” Olabisi emphasized. He further stated that the committee making these accusations was established by the current administration to target Oyetola, labeling it as political persecution rather than a legitimate anti-corruption effort.
Regarding allegations of money laundering involving the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Olabisi dismissed these claims as unsubstantiated, pointing out the absence of credible evidence. He argued that accusations of financial mismanagement or illicit withdrawals must be backed by thorough forensic investigation and not just financial transactions alone.
“For clarity, the $20.467 million was converted into ₦6.26 billion and credited to the Osun Government’s account by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),” Olabisi explained, reaffirming that CBN records confirm the transaction.
He reiterated that good governance should prioritize truth, due process, and the rule of law, rather than political retribution. Olabisi also challenged the Adeleke administration to present concrete evidence in court if it possessed any credible information related to the allegations against Oyetola’s government.
Finally, Olabisi underscored Oyetola’s achievements, including the upgrading of 332 primary healthcare centers, the rehabilitation of the General Hospital in Ejigbo, and the construction of a world-class 120-bed ward at the State Specialist Hospital in Asubiaro. He also highlighted the improvements in medical facilities across Osun, asserting that Oyetola’s legacy was one of responsible leadership and that no politically motivated accusations could diminish his accomplishments.
