A tragic accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Alapako area of Ogun State claimed the lives of four individuals and left nine others injured on Sunday night.
The crash occurred at approximately 8:35 PM on March 9, 2025, when a Toyota Hiace bus, traveling from Ibadan to Lagos, lost control after its left rear tyre punctured due to a bad section of the road. The vehicle subsequently somersaulted off the road.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, stating that the impact of the crash was severe. The four fatalities, including the driver, were found dead at the scene. The nine injured passengers were immediately transported to Victory Hospital in Ogere for medical treatment.
Odutola explained that the cause of the accident was linked to the bad road condition, which caused the tyre puncture, leading to the vehicle’s loss of control. “The bus was severely damaged due to the crash,” she said.
The remains of the deceased were taken to the FOS morgue in Ipara for autopsy. In the aftermath, police officers were visible on the scene, managing traffic, assisting with crowd control, and documenting the incident.
This accident adds to a series of road mishaps in Ogun State, with another fatal crash reported on Friday along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, where 16 people lost their lives in a fiery accident.
The Ogun State Police Command has urged motorists to ensure proper vehicle maintenance and adhere to safety regulations to prevent such tragedies. The damaged vehicle has been removed for further investigation by the Vehicle Inspection Office.
