The management of Geometric Power, also known as Aba Power, has confirmed a fire outbreak at its premises in Aba, Abia State, on Monday.
In a statement issued on Monday, the utility company explained that the fire occurred in the early hours of the morning, though the cause remains unknown.
“There was a fire outbreak early this morning in a temporary building on the premises of Geometric Power, Nigeria’s leading integrated power company, located in the Osisioma Industrial Layout, Aba, Abia State. The building was previously used by a defunct South African electricity firm, Group 5, during the construction of facilities for the integrated power company. It has been largely unused for over 12 years. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the situation has been contained,” the statement read.
The management further noted that the fire was swiftly controlled by Geometric Power staff before the Abia State Fire Service arrived at the scene, responding promptly to the emergency.
Geometric Power commended its staff for their vigilance and effective efforts in managing the fire, as well as the Abia State Fire Service for its quick and professional response.
The company also expressed appreciation for the concern and support shown by members of the public.
