NIMC Cautions Nigerians to Modify NIN Only on Official Self-Service Portal

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has urged Nigerians to modify their National Identification Number (NIN) details only through its official self-service portal to ensure data security and integrity.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, the commission emphasized the importance of using the official portal, SelfserviceModification.nimc.gov.ng, for any NIN updates. The commission reassured Nigerians that its self-service portal is secure, reliable, and convenient, enabling users to update their information from anywhere.

NIMC specifically warned against using unauthorized websites, stating, “The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) wishes to clarify that to maintain the security and integrity of your NIN data, modifications can only be done on the official NIMC self-service portal.”

The commission cautioned Nigerians not to attempt modifying their NIN data on third-party platforms, as doing so could expose their personal information to fraudsters. “Do not attempt to modify your NIN data on any unauthorized websites, as this may compromise your personal information and put you at risk of identity theft,” the statement read.

NIMC also highlighted the benefits of the official portal, noting that it ensures data integrity while allowing Nigerians to update their details without needing to visit an enrollment center.
