
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the tragic killing of Idris Sakaina, the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, by unknown gunmen.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Saturday, outside Sakaina’s residence in the Oke Ose area of Ilorin, the state capital.
In a statement issued by the police spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command assured the public that investigations were already underway.
“The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has launched a full investigation into the incident,” Ejire-Adeyemi said. “CP Victor Olaiya, psc(+), has assured that the perpetrators will be brought to justice and calls on the public to remain calm and assist with any relevant information.”
The police spokesperson also stated that, as of now, no arrests have been made and the motive for the killing remains unclear. She emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are in place to identify and apprehend those responsible for this brutal act.
A statement from the Kwara State Governor’s Special Assistant on Inter-Community Relations (Fulani), Muhammed Abdullahi, also confirmed the death of the MACBAN leader.
According to reports, the gunmen ambushed Sakaina as he stood in front of his home, shooting him at close range before fleeing the scene, leaving the 32-year-old in a pool of blood.
Sakaina was a former Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Moro Local Government Area and a respected youth leader within the Fulani community in Kwara State.
In an official statement, AbdulAzeez Muhammed, the state secretary of MACBAN, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our esteemed Chairman, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, who was tragically killed by unknown gunmen at his Oke Ose residence around 10 p.m. yesterday. He leaves behind two wives and six children.”
As the investigation continues, the Kwara State Police Command has vowed to leave no stone unturned in bringing those behind this heinous crime to justice.
