170 Passengers and Crew Evacuated After Engine Fire on American Airlines Flight in Denver

More than 170 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated after the engine of an American Airlines jet caught fire upon landing in Denver on Thursday.

The incident took place when Flight 1006, a Boeing 737-800, was diverted to Denver International Airport (DEN) after crew members reported engine vibrations while en route to Dallas.

The plane, which had taken off from Colorado Springs, safely landed in Denver around 5:15 PM local time (23:15 GMT) but encountered an engine issue after taxiing to the gate. According to American Airlines, all 172 passengers and six crew members were evacuated from the aircraft without incident. Twelve passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Images from the scene show passengers evacuating via emergency exits and climbing onto the wings of the plane as part of the emergency procedure. The airline has confirmed that no one on board suffered serious injuries.

This marks the second recent incident involving an American Airlines flight. On January 29, a midair collision between an American Airlines plane and a United States Army helicopter near Washington, DC, tragically killed 67 people. Additionally, last month, a Delta Air Lines regional jet crashed upside down in Toronto due to strong winds, injuring 18 people but leaving all passengers and crew members safe.

American Airlines has stated that it is working with authorities to investigate the cause of the engine-related issue.
