Former President Muhammadu Buhari has once again affirmed his allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing his commitment to further promoting the party across Nigeria.
In a statement released by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Thursday, Buhari emphasized his unwavering loyalty to the APC and reiterated that he wishes to be identified as a proud member of the party.
“I am an APC member and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularise the party by all means,” Buhari was quoted as saying, in response to rumors of defections from the party.
Buhari, who served as president under the APC banner from 2015 to 2023, stated that his continued association with the party is driven by gratitude for the support it provided him throughout his presidency.
In his statement, Buhari reflected on the invaluable role of the APC, noting that the party’s foundational efforts were instrumental in safeguarding the nation’s constitution and democracy. He emphasized that the sacrifices made by the party’s founding members should be honored and upheld.
“I will never turn my back on the party that gave me two terms of office,” he affirmed. “The support I received from the party before and during my tenure remains the highest honor, and I ask for nothing more.”
Buhari’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions and rumors within the party, as various leaders continue to deliberate on the direction of the APC in the post-presidency era.
