Governor Soludo Challenges Opposition in Anambra, Seeks Re-election in 2025

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has expressed confidence about his re-election bid in the upcoming November 8, 2025 governorship election, claiming he sees no competent challenger from opposition parties. Speaking during a media chat to mark his third anniversary in office, Soludo stated that there is widespread consensus among the people of Anambra, known as Ndi Anambra, that his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has delivered tangible benefits and should be given another mandate.

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) emphasized that while Anambra people may support different parties in national elections, they remain loyal to APGA when it comes to governorship and local government elections. He boldly challenged the opposition, saying, “If there is an election… I will be on the ballot, and then I ask: who else is running? Which party is fielding a candidate? So far, unless the person will come down from somewhere, but so far, I have not heard of any.”

Soludo, who has received calls urging him to run for a second term, clarified that the decision to nominate him as the APGA candidate lies with the party. “The party has to agree to it and give me the platform. For me, I applied for this job intentionally because I felt that’s my way of thanking God for His bountiful blessings, to spend the rest of my life serving and leaving this place better than we met it,” he explained.

He expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve and stated that, if nominated, it would be a great honor and privilege to continue serving the people of Anambra.

Anambra is one of eight states in Nigeria holding off-season governorship elections due to litigations and court judgments, alongside Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun, and Ondo.
