The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of Kelly Okungbowa, also known as Ebo Stone, the former coordinator of the suspended Edo State Public Safety Response Team (PSRT), for alleged naira abuse.
According to a statement released on Monday by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, Okungbowa was arrested after a viral video showed him spraying and mutilating the Naira at a bar on March 9, 2025.
Okungbowa, who was recently suspended from his position by the Edo State Government, was taken into custody due to his actions captured in the video.
In a related development, the EFCC also reported the arrest of Murja Kunya, a TikTok influencer, for a similar offence. Kunya was apprehended for allegedly spraying Naira notes for fun during her stay at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano. Her arrest followed a thorough investigation by EFCC operatives after she had violated an administrative bail granted to her over a month ago.
Kunya was initially arrested in January 2025 for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, which prohibits the abuse and mutilation of the Naira. She was granted bail while awaiting her arraignment in the Federal High Court in Kano. However, she failed to appear for her court hearing and absconded, evading the legal process.
Following extensive investigation and surveillance, EFCC operatives re-arrested Kunya on Sunday, March 16, 2025. She is currently in custody and will be arraigned before the Federal High Court.
