The police in Osun State have apprehended three individuals linked to the recent violent clashes between the Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun communities.
The unrest, which erupted between Ifon and Ilobu and later spread to Erin-Osun, has resulted in deaths, arson, and widespread property destruction.
In a statement released Tuesday, Osun State Police Spokesperson, Adeoye Adeola, confirmed that the suspects will face prosecution in court following a thorough investigation. The police are determined to bring those responsible for the chaos to justice.
“The Osun State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Mohammed Umar Abba, has swiftly mobilized officers and personnel to the affected areas to restore peace and maintain order, in line with our core responsibility to protect lives and properties,” Adeola said.
The clashes have escalated tensions in the region, prompting Governor Ademola Adeleke to declare a 24-hour curfew to curb further violence.
Adeola assured the public that security forces, in collaboration with other agencies, are strictly enforcing the curfew and taking all necessary measures to prevent additional bloodshed.
“To date, three suspects have been arrested for violating the curfew while armed with a Dane gun. We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation, and once completed, these individuals will be charged accordingly,” Adeola continued.
The police also stated that they are intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend the remaining perpetrators and their backers, ensuring that those responsible face the full force of the law. As the situation continues to unfold, authorities are closely monitoring the area to prevent further escalation.
