President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has strongly rejected the allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) that he plotted to have her assassinated, describing the claims as malicious, false, and unfounded.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio expressed that he remains unaffected by what he called a deliberate campaign of misinformation. He reaffirmed his commitment to national unity, institutional integrity, and the rule of law.
“As a statesman dedicated to national unity and democratic principles, I will not be swayed by malicious falsehoods or inflammatory rhetoric,” the statement read.
Eyiboh further stated that formal letters of demand are being prepared to be sent to both Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and former Senator Elisha Abbo, requesting immediate public retractions, apologies, and compensation for reputational damage.
The statement, titled “Re: False and Malicious Allegations Targeting the President of the Senate,” condemned what it described as a coordinated smear campaign. It highlighted an incident on April 1, 2025, when Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, while speaking in Kogi State, falsely accused Senator Akpabio of recruiting former Governor Yahaya Bello to assassinate her. The statement called the accusation not only false but also a dangerous and provocative fabrication.
Eyiboh also reminded the public of a previous unfounded allegation by Akpoti-Uduaghan, in which she accused Akpabio of sexual harassment—a claim she later abandoned without explanation.
In addition, the Senate President dismissed recent comments made by former Senator Elisha Abbo during an interview with newsmen where he alleged that Akpabio manipulated the judiciary to remove him from office. Eyiboh pointed out that Abbo had previously retracted those claims in 2023 and issued a public apology after admitting they were based on false assumptions. He clarified that Abbo’s removal was a result of a constitutionally grounded judgment by the Court of Appeal, not political interference.
“His new claims regarding being denied entitlements are also categorically false. Senate entitlements are processed administratively and are not at the discretion of the Senate President,” the statement explained.
Eyiboh suggested that the timing and similarity of these attacks point to a politically motivated effort to undermine the Senate’s leadership.
Akpabio called on Nigerians and the international community to disregard the allegations and instead focus on the Senate’s ongoing efforts to promote legislative excellence, democratic values, and progress for the country.
