“A Mother Shouldn’t Be Compelled To Have A Different Name From Her Underaged Kids” – Mary Njoku
The marriage drama involving Yul Edochie and his ex-wife, May, has quietly drawn the attention of Nollywood actress Mary Njoku.
Recall how Yul Edochie had publicly humiliated his ex-wife and demanded that she return her bride price and give up his surname.
Njoku retorted that although a mother has the right to change her own name, she shouldn’t be compelled to give her kids a new name.
She pointed out that it takes years to establish a reputation, and he requested to have it changed since he is opposed to divorce.
Njoku emphasized that after marriage, altering one’s name should be a choice and that some wives have done a great job adding their surnames on the map.
“A mother shouldn’t be compelled to have a different name from her underaged kids. Except she is allowed to change their names too.
“Besides, some wives have been responsible for putting their surnames on the map. Asking them to drop it is like stealing her copyright. Except she wants to.” She wrote.
